Fondazione Marcegaglia proposes itself as a facilitator of a network of companies interested in developing an initiative to help young people, especially girls, to explore opportunities in the world of work, to be more prepared and ready to build their own future.
A Steem for Steel aims to inform and train Italian high school students on the vast and various job opportunities that STEEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics, Maths) degrees can guarantee, especially in the steel sector. The main purpose is to accompany them, through practical and laboratory activities, to choose a university or specialization course that prepares them to enter this world and become its future protagonists, showing its innovative and sustainable sides: with a project-based learning methodology, students will discover what transformations this sector is experiencing, which has always been a driving force for the Italian economy. Another objective is to encourage female students to consider future employment in the steel industry, through the example of illustrious women. This 1st edition will take place between January and June 2020 in some schools in the province of Mantua, Naples, Padua, Udine.
The project will start in January 2020 with a launch workshop that will involve 1200 students in 4 cities: Mantua, Padua, Udine and Naples. In each school there will be meetings with recent graduates, communication experts and professionals who will focus on the opportunities given by Steem degrees and the steel sector for the professional future of young people.
Subsequently, the students who accept the challenge will participate in the Innovation Camp at the headquarter of the 4 partner companies. Here the students will work in teams supported by trainers and experts from the company to simulate a communication campaign linked to a hot topic relating to the world of steel. A winning team will emerge from each Innovation Camp and will be able to access the final challenge.
The Steel League will be the national competition in which the best teams from the 4 cities will compete, creating content on social media on issues in the steel sector such as innovation, environmental sustainability and circular economy. During the race, STEEM students and influencers will support the teams. A jury of established professionals will decide the victory of one of the teams in the race. Academic credits and technology prizes will be awarded to all participants. A special prize will be awarded to the winning team, the teacher and the school.
