In Berigai, one of India’s poorest rural areas on the border between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, there are no health facilities: the nearest hospital is 30 km away, which is normally walked on foot. In this area, diabetes is one of the most widespread and disabling diseases in the population: 7 out of 100 people are affected.
In order to cope with this emergency, an outpatient clinic has been established with a local partner, the Vanaprastha International Charitable Trust, which, following the purpose of the project, is primarily intended for the prevention and treatment of diabetes which it is still available to the Indian foundation that cares for nearly 1,000 children. The project also includes the vocational training of medical, nursing and technical personnel with training courses at health facilities in Italy and a teleconsult that allows continuous professional collaboration with volunteer doctors in Italy
